Guideline 8 – State civil law matters that will not be assisted

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) will not make a grant of legal assistance to a person for any of the following specific State civil law matters:

• cases in the Residential Tenancies List at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
• town planning disputes
• Royal Commissions or Parliamentary inquiries
• internal disputes in organisations
• proceedings on behalf of an unincorporated association or a corporation
• employment disputes
• building disputes
• change of name applications
• commercial or business disputes
• testator family maintenance applications
• an application by a corporation or any other party for an adoption order or opposing an adoption order (but see State civil law guideline 7 in relation to a grant of legal assistance for independent representation of a child in some adoption proceedings).
